Named after some of the area’s first settlers, Sextantio is a gorgeous series of buildings spread around the beautiful Italian village Santo Stefano di Sessanio. It was bought and restored by the Swedish-Italian entrepeneur and hotelier Daniele Kihlgren (article about Mr Kihlgren published in ‘The Independant’ here). He had the fabulous idea to transform the empty dwellings into about 30 grotto styled hotel rooms. A very interesting hotel concept!
The hotel is located in Central Italy in the Abruzzo region (about 150 km from Rome Fiumicino Airport).
Sextantio is not a hip and glamorous Italian hotel with luxury accomodation! It is a place for people with a strong sense of adventure, a passion for history and authenticity.
Sextantio is not a traditional hotel, but tradition is deeply ingrained in its foundations.

The restaurant of the hotel. For those who value a beautiful local meal.
Notice the flickering candles on the tables. Romantic!
The hotel is a throw-back to the Middle Ages, with craftwork made by villagers, maintaining traditions and simplicity but with modern comfort integrated.
Let’s discover the rooms!
You will find beautiful localy woven bed linens, 17th century wooden ceilings and ancient fire places, combined with modern technology.
Every piece of furniture is either an antique find or made by hand using traditonal methods and techniques.
Every room has its fire place.
Mix of a design bath tube and antique furniture, remaining simplicity!
Having breakfast in one of the rooms!
The traditions and ancient crafts are reinstated in the village, such as handicrafts and weaving of wool by the villagers.
